How to Convert a Quicken File to QuickBooks

Author:

You are here:

QuickBooks is one of the most popular financial software programs for small businesses. If you are using Quicken to track business expenses, QuickBooks is a great alternative that can allow you to keep your personal and business finances separate while giving you more business functions and reports.

  • Insert the QuickBooks installation CD. The installation process should start automatically. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the installation.
  • Back up Quicken. It is always important to back up a file before you begin any significant changes to the file. Select “File” and then “Backup.” Make sure the file name includes the date so you can easily locate it later.
  • Import Quicken data into QuickBooks. QuickBooks has created a simple process for importing Quicken. Once QuickBooks is installed, select “File,” “Utilities,” “Convert” and finally “From Quicken.”

If your system is older than 2006, then choose “File,” “Utilities” and “Convert from Quicken.” Select the QDF file corresponding to your existing Quicken file. If you cannot locate it, complete a search on your computer for QDF files. You will then be guided through the rest of the import process.
