Why QuickBooks Running Slowly in Multi-user Mode

You are here:

Many people who make use of QuickBooks in multi-user mode often experience issues with its processing speed. Before you start dealing with such an issue, it is always advisable to install QuickBooks on only that system or server where the company data file has also been stored. Also that very machine should be set up in such a way that it is able to support usage by multiple users at the same time without any hassle.

Here are some points that you can keep in mind while using QuickBooks on multi-user mode in order to obtain best performance from it:

Selecting the right machine

The computer so chosen must at least exceed the recommended ranges of RAM, Processor as well as Disk space, which can be found in the Startup & Quick Reference Guide for QuickBooks. It is also recommended that this very PC should have least of activity related to functions that are not related with QuickBooks. Also it is preferred to have the installation as well as the company file on C: drive, which is also considered as default drive by QuickBooks.

Running larger tasks at an alternate time
Some tasks such as running large-sized reports, which eat up a lot of memory, while others are also using QuickBooks at the same time, can greatly impact the performance of this popular accounting software. Try to do such functions at some time when not many are using QuickBooks and thus obtain better performance out of it.

Alternatively, you can also set your preferences as “Don’t remind me” for certain tasks that you don’t see or use often. Also, under reports and graph preferences you must disable automatic refresh or prompt for refresh every now and then, which too can slow down QuickBooks majorly

Improving QuickBooks Performance while Printing

  • If your daily tasks include printing business forms, checks or reports as well, you are recommended to:
  • Print large-sized tasks in two or more sets of relatively smaller sizes.
  • You must print a large-sized report at some other time
  • Try to use the same computer for printing where you also have QuickBooks installed. If the same is not accessible, try using the computer that has fastest access to that system.
