To get started using Facebook, you’ll need to start with an email address and password. To make retrieving your login information easy, the email address needs to be from a third-party email provider, such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or any number of other email providers. You’ll also need a password that will be easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
- Get an email account. If you don’t have one already, ask friends or family which providers they recommend. Popular choices include Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo, but there are many others available, depending on what type of Internet service you are using. Log on to the Internet and go to the email account provider of your choice, such as www.gmail.com.
- Click “Sign up now” or a similar button to begin choosing an email address. Follow the prompts for selecting an email address and a password that you will be able to remember. Keep in mind that while your email address will have a password associated with it, for safety, that password should be different from your Facebook password. When you’ve completed the process, write your email address and password down and put it in a safe place.
- Navigate to www.facebook.com and begin filling in your name, email address and chosen password for Facebook, then click “Sign Up.” Again, for safety, make this Facebook password different than the password you use to log in to your email platform.
