How to Start Microsoft Office Outlook in Safe Mode

Microsoft Outlook helps you manage your e-mails, contacts and calendar in a centralized location. However, there are times when Outlook doesn’t work correctly. For example, it may freeze while you are working in the program. According to Microsoft, “safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly.” So, if you don’t encounter any problems when you start Outlook in safe mode, you should check the applications you’ve installed recently.

Click the “Start” button in Windows. Go to “Programs” and “Microsoft Office.”

Hold down the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard as you select “Microsoft Office Outlook.”

Click “Yes” at the warning that “Outlook has detected that you are holding down the CTRL key. Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode?” Microsoft Outlook opens and the title bar appears as “Microsoft Outlook (Safe Mode).”
