The HP 8500, an all-in-one device that gives you scanning capabilities along with printing and copying, requires some setup before you can use the device. After you install the software and drivers for the HP 8500, you can scan pictures, documents and other items through HP’s scanning software. You can also use third-party scanning software, although you’ll need to check its compatibility with the HP 8500 first.
Insert the HP 8500 installation disc in your computer. If you don’t have the installation disc or your computer doesn’t use a CD drive, the drivers and software are available at HP.com. The downloads available at HP.com are most likely more up-to-date versions of the software and drivers contained on the installation disc.
Click “Install USB Connected Device” when the CD auto-runs the installation software. If the installation menu does not automatically open on your computer, click “Start.” Click “Computer” and double-click the CD drive’s letter in this menu. Double-click “setup.exe” to manually launch the installation software.
Click “Next.” Accept HP’s license agreement to continue the installation and click “Next.”
Attach the USB cable to the HP 8500 and connect it to your computer. Plug the HP 8500 into power and wait a moment for the installation software to detect the device. Click “Finish” to complete the HP 8500 all-in-one installation.
