How to Set Up a Wireless 6500 Deskjet Printer

You are here:

The Hewlett-Packard 6500 Deskjet model printers are “all-in-one” printers that offer you a variety of features. In addition to the capability to print, copy and scan, you can also set up a wireless network to print from laptop computers and other untethered devices. While the set up of 6500 printers is a fairly straightforward process, you have the additional tasks of setting up the wireless feature.

Connect the printer’s power cord to the appropriate port on the back of the printer and the opposite end into the power outlet. Press the power button to turn on the 6500.

Install the appropriate printer software that is appropriate for your operating system. While the following steps use Windows 7, the process is the same for most other systems. Insert the CD, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Install the print driver. Connect the USB cable to the appropriate port on the back of the printer and the opposite end into an available USB port on your computer. This process automatically installs the appropriate driver, and a popup window will generate that notifies you the 6500 is ready to use.

Use the “Wireless Setup Wizard” to set the wireless features on the 6500. Press the “Setup” button on the printer’s control panel. Choose the “Network” option, which will generate a list of available wireless networks. Choose your wireless network. Use the keypad on the printer’s control panel to enter your network’s WPE or WPA password.
