HOW TO RESET QUICKBOOK PASSWORD

To reset the existing password in QuickBooks you must have proper authenticated rights. If you don’t have admin rights you can’t change the password.

How to change a Non-Admin User Account Password

  • Login to your company file as admin
  • Go to the Company menu, and choose “Users and Passwords” and then select Users
  • Now enter your desired password
  • Check the User List and choose the user whose password you want to change
  • Click on “Edit User”
  • Type your new password over there. First you have to write your desired password in the appropriate field and after that write it again in Confirm Password field
  • Click Next button two times and then click Finish

Note: Your password must be under guidelines as are provided by QuickBooks, and you must try to make a strong password so that it would be difficult for anyone to hack it. A complicated password must contain at least seven characters in which uppercase letters, lowercase letters, special characters and numbers are included.

How to change Admin Password

  • Open your company file, select Company -> Set up Users and Passwords -> Choose “Change Your Password”
  • It would show you your current password window and would ask for your current password. Type your admin password here
  • Enter your new password in the new password field and then in confirm password field
  • In case you don’t remember your current password, click “Forgot Password”
  • It would ask you to answer few security questions that you had already mentioned at the time of account creation
  • Now after entering all the answers click OK button
  • In case you see this below message then click Close button:

“Your password and challenge answer and question have been removed, and your company file is no longer password-protected. When you close this window, you will be asked to create your new password and select and answer your challenge question”

  • If you forgot your answers for  the security questions you can change your password by using a reset code, which is also called as access token
    • Click “I forgot my answer link”
    • It would ask you for your License number, Name, Email address, Business phone number and Zip code
    • Type in the required information in the apt fields and click Next button
    • If your information matches with the QuickBooks database info, you will receive a Password Reset code (or access token) in your email account
    • Enter password reset code and click Next button
    • Enter your new password in the New Password field and then again in the Confirm Password field
    • It would now provide you a drop down of Challenge Question. Choose a Challenge Question from there and answer it in the Answer field
    • Click OK button
  • It would land you to the Change Password window automatically
  • Type in your preferred password and click OK
  • You have now successfully changed your password
  • Now your file would open and you can start your work with QuickBooks
