How to Install Software for Scanning on the HP Officejet 5500

The HP Officejet 5500 is an all-in-one printer, meaning it has printing, copying and scanning capabilities. To use the device with your computer, you need to install the necessary drivers so the system knows how to interact with the new hardware. To use the scanner, you need to install the HP software. If you have lost the installation CD typically included with the Officejet, you can easily download the proper software via the HP website.

Navigate to the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for the Officejet 5500.

Select your operating system and click “Next” to view available downloads.

Expand the “Driver” options (by click the “+” icon). Locate “HP Officejet and PSC Full Feature Software and Driver” and click “Download.” This will download the driver as well as the HP Photo and Imaging suite. Save the file to your desktop.

Double-click the downloaded file. Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software. Do not connect the Officejet until you are prompted.

Restart the computer after the software has installed. Open the installed HP Photo and Imaging software to begin using the scanner component of the HP Officejet 5500 All-in-One printer.
