How to install driver software for a Dell laser printer

Before we start to install or re-install the printer driver software for any printer it is best to uninstall or remove the existing or pre-installed printer driver software. This is very important to uninstall the previously installed printer driver, if is not done so it will cause problems and will prevent the computer from communicating with the printer.

Installing Older Windows Printer Drivers in Windows 10

Click “View products”

Click “Printers”

Click “Mono Laser Printers” or “Color Laser Printers”

Select your printer model

Click “Drivers & downloads”

Select the desired Operating System from the drop-down menu

Click Show All

In the Drivers for OS Deployment section

Click “Download File”

Click the down arrow next to “Save”

Click “Save as”

Click “Save”

When the download is completed, click “Open Folder”

Right-click the file name

Click “Properties”

Click the “Compatibility tab”

Click “Change Settings for All Users”

Click the box next to Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for

Using the drop-down menu select the Operating System that matches the Operating System of the driver downloaded

Click “Apply”

Click “OK”

Right-click the driver file

Click “Run as Administrator”

The User Account Control window may appear, if so Click “Yes” to start the installation and follow the prompts that appear to install the printer software and driver.

Windows 7 Printer Driver Installation Recommended Procedure

Install the printer’s drivers in the Windows Vista compatibility mode

Download (do not install yet) the latest printer drivers available for your printer

Click “Save” and make note of the driver file name

Click “Save”, when the download finishes

Click “Open Folder”

Right-click the driver file just downloaded

Click “Properties”

Click “Compatibility tab”

Check the box next to Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for: Using the drop down menu, select Windows Vista

Click “Apply”

Click “OK”

Double-click the driver file to start the installation process

Follow the installation prompts

Installing Windows 7 Printer Drivers in Windows 8 or Windows 8.1

Driver for Laser Printers

Install the printer’s drivers in the Windows 7 compatibility mode

From the Desktop screen open Internet Explorer and browse to the, Dell Product Support Page

Enter your printer’s Service Tag to get a concise list of drivers for your specific product model

Click “Submit” to continue

Click “Printers

Click “Mono Laser Printers”, “Color Laser Printers” or “All-In-One Inkjet Printers”.

Select your printer model (the model number of your printer is shown on the front of the printer)

Click “Drivers & Download”

Select the desired Operating System from the drop-down menu

Click Drivers for OS Deployment

Click Download under the desired file to start the download immediately or you can add it to a download list to download multiple files at the same time

Click “Save”

Make note of the file name and decide where to save the file, and then click Save

When the download is completed

Click “Open Folder”

Right-click the file name, then click “Properties”

Click the “Compatibility tab”

Click “Change Settings for All Users

Check the box next to Run this Program in Compatibility Mode for: Using the drop-down menu select Windows 7

Click “Apply”, then Click “OK

Click “OK”

Right-click the driver file, then click Run as Administrator.

The User Account Control window may appear, if so click Yes to start the installation and follow the prompts that appear to install the printer software and driver.

Browse to the Dell Support Page, Enter your printer’s Service Tag to get a concise list of drivers for your specific product model.

Click Submit to continue.

Click View products

Click Printers

Click Mono Laser Printers or Color Laser Printers

Select your printer model (the model number of your printer is shown on the front of the printer)

Click Drivers & downloads

Select the desired Operating System from the drop-down menu

Click Show All

Click Download File under the desired file to start the download immediately or you can add it to a download list to download multiple files at the same time

Click Run

Make sure the box next to Close this dialog box when download completes is unchecked

When the download completes, Click Allow, Run or Yes

Follow the prompts that appear to install the drivers or applications
