Your D-Link router is pre-loaded with a series of default wireless and security settings. Although the default settings allow you to create a working network, you may want to change some of the security or firewall settings to improve your network’s performance. To prevent anyone within range of your network from accessing the D-Link router’s menu screen you should set up a new password that will be hard for other people to guess.
Type “192.168.0.1” into your browser’s URL field and press Enter to load the D-Link router’s menu screen. Click the drop-down menu and select “Admin.”
Type the D-Link’s current password into the text field labeled “Password.” Leave the field blank if you haven’t yet set the password.
Click “Log In.” Navigate to the “Tools” tab at the top of the screen and then click the “Admin” button at the left end of the window.
Scroll down to the “Admin Password” heading. Type the new password you want to use in the “Password” field and then re-type it in the “Verify Password” field.
Click the “Save Settings” button to save the D-Link router’s new password. Close the Web browser to exit the router’s menu screen.
