How to Get Drivers for My Dell Computer

Dell computers have all the drivers they need when they are brand new, but sometimes a driver needs to be reinstalled. Reloading or upgrading an operating system will wipe out the drivers on a Dell computer. Occasionally, system updates will uninstall a driver, which can cause chaos on a computer.   • Access the Dell homepage and look for the Support list. Click on the “Drivers and Downloads” link to open the User’s Choice Page. Click on the Start button under the Home Users box.
  • Choose the Enter Tag option if the Service Tag sticker is still on the Dell computer case. The Service Tag is the same are the Serial Number on the Dell computer. Enter the numbers from the tag and click the “Go” button. Check to make sure that the right computer model is associated with your Service Tag.
  • Choose “Select Your Product Model” if the Service Tag is missing or cannot be located. Choose the Product Family — desktop, laptop or notebook. Next use the menu to “Select Your Product Line” — for example, Alienware, Latitude or Inspiron. Choose your model from the “Select Your Product Model” list. A picture of the Dell computer will appear on the page.
  • Click “Confirm” if the computer matches the Dell computer in need of drivers. In the drop-down menu in the Refine Your Results section, choose the operating system. This triggers a change in the driver list because it auto-populates with compatible software.
  • Look through the list and click on the driver category that is needed, for example, Audio. Click on the drivers and download them to the desktop.
