How to Access ASUS Laptop BIOS

You are here:

Your computer’s BIOS — or Basic Input/output System — is the first thing that starts when you launch your laptop or desktop computer. The BIOS is the system that tells your computer which operating system to start and is essentially what allows everything else to run smoothly. The computer BIOS can also serve as a last line of defense to protect your computer, as password-protecting your BIOS makes it much more difficult for hackers to access or alter your computer’s settings.

Accessing the BIOS of an ASUS Laptop

Accessing your computer’s BIOS is a process that differs from system to system. The ASUS laptop BIOS can be accessed through a simple series of steps.

Step 1:

Restart your laptop or boot it up from a shutdown.

Step 2:

As soon as the computer starts booting up, press and hold down the F2 key on your keyboard. You only have a few seconds to press the key before the computer enters its normal boot process. This action should boot the computer up in BIOS mode, which is a gray and blue screen with a number of different settings.

Step 3:

Release the F2 key as soon as you see the BIOS screen.

What You Can Do in BIOS

Once you have accessed BIOS mode on your ASUS laptop, you are able to make changes to your computer’s boot options and other settings. According to the PC Guide, accessing and changing your BIOS settings are good ways to speed up your computer. From changing boot options by making sure your hard drive is first on the Boot Device Priority list to disabling unused mouse or USB ports, tweaking BIOS settings can make your system run more efficiently. BIOS mode is also the place to go if you want to boot your system from an external hard disk.
